David the Friend - Shoaib Ebadi
We continue our summer sermon series exploring the life and lessons from King David's life with a sermon from Shoaib Ebadi.
Scripture: 1 Samuel 18:1-4, 1 Samuel 19:1-7, 1 Samuel 20, 2 Samuel 1:25-27, 2 Samuel 9, John 15:15
The bond between David and Jonathan was an example of a true and abiding friendship. Their
friendship was even deeper than their own family connections. They pledged their lives into
one another’s care and were faithful to that promise even through difficult circumstances.
Jonathan defended David when Saul wanted to kill him. David provided for and gave
Jonathan’s son a place of honour even after he had died even though it was a potential threat
to his security on the throne.
How does this connect with our lives today?
1) To be a true friend is one of the greatest bonds we can have with another person
2) A true friend is loyal through the most difficult circumstances and keeps their promises
3) Jesus call us his friends and invites us into this most powerful kind of connection
