David the Anointed Outlaw - Richard Olfert
King Saul knew that God had rejected him as king and had withdrawn his blessing from him. David’s military successes and popularity with the people made him a threat to Saul’s rule and so he decided to kill him. Overnight David went from being part of the king’s court, married to Saul’s daughter to an outlaw hiding in the desert. Even though he had been wrongly accused and was on the run for his life he chose to trust in God’s timing and provision for his future. When there was an opportunity to take matters into his own hands and kill Saul, he chose to do the honourable thing
Scripture: 1 Samuel 26, James 4:13-17
Even though the scriptures tell us that David was a man after God’s own heart, we also find that he made some significant mistakes along the way. However, when confronted with his sin, he always turned back to God and has become an example of true repentance and faithfulness for us. In this sermon series we will be doing a character study of David and apply insights from his life to our own walk of faith.
